2-Year-Old May Have Taken a Sip of Pepto-Bismol – No Symptoms

My 2-year-old daughter, who weighs about 26 pounds, may have taken a small sip of Pepto-Bismol (Bismuth Subsalicylate 262 mg/15 mL) oral suspension. She isn’t showing any symptoms right now. What should I do?

A pediatric patient ingested a small amount of bismuth subsalicylate and is asymptomatic at this time. Supportive care is required, which includes drinking fluids and offering a healthy snack. The child should be monitored for any signs of gastrointestinal upset or unpleasant taste in the mouth. If the child has any symptoms or if the symptoms get worse, she must go to the emergency room for assessment.
