63-year-old may have accidentally re-taken Metoprolol, Lisinopril, and Levothyroxine

My 63-year-old mom, who weighs about 195 pounds and has a history of high blood pressure and hypothyroidism, may have taken her medications twice — once last night and again this afternoon around 12:00 pm, about 16 hours apart. The medications possibly taken include: • Two tablets of Metoprolol 50 mg • Two tablets of Lisinopril 5 mg • One tablet of Levothyroxine 75 mcg She’s currently feeling fine with no symptoms. What should I do?

This may involve a double dose of Metoprolol, Lisinopril, and Levothyroxine. The patient is currently asymptomatic.

Recommended Actions:

·        Encourage her to drink fluids.

·        Offer a healthy snack (to reduce any risk of hypotension or hypoglycemia).

·        Monitor closely for the following symptoms:

o   Bradycardia (slow heart rate)

o   Hypotension (low blood pressure)

o   Palpitations

o   Agitation or confusion

o   Fever

If any symptoms develop or worsen, she should be taken to the emergency department for evaluation. Although serious toxic effects are not expected based on the timing, dosage, and her current condition, it is still recommended to contact your local poison center (1-800-222-1222 in the U.S.) for personalized advice.
