Accidental ingestion of Hand Sanitizer mistaken for water – No symptoms
A woman at our church may have accidentally swallowed some hand sanitizer, thinking it was water. We’re not sure how much she drank. This happened about 10 minutes ago, and she seems fine right now. What should we do?

A person accidentally ingested an unknown amount of ethanol-based hand sanitizer but is currently asymptomatic.
Recommended actions:
- Encourage drinking fluids and eating a light snack
- Monitor for signs of intoxication or stomach upset
If symptoms develop or worsen, call the Poison Center or go to the emergency room. No serious toxic effects are expected based on this exposure.
