Hot Cooking Oil in Eye – Feels Irritated but Vision Is Fine

I got some hot cooking oil in my eye while cooking. I rinsed it with water for about 5 minutes. My vision seems fine—no redness or swelling—but it still feels like something is in there. What should I do?

Hot cooking oil can cause surface irritations or small burns. If you haven’t already rinsed the eye with warm water for 15 minutes, do so; then apply a cool and moist compress for 20 - 30 minutes. Monitor for pain, redness, vision changes, or increased symptoms. If any of this occurs or continues, plan to follow up with the eye doctor, which it seems you will.
